Case Study: Driving Product Strategy and Execution at PostConnectPlay

Introduction

PostConnectPlay is an emerging tech startup focused on transforming the Golf Social and Connectivity space. The company set out to solve a real problem—helping golfers and other sports enthusiasts find playing partners more easily. However, in its early stages, the product lacked a structured strategy, well-defined development processes, and the necessary governance to ensure smooth execution. My role was to bring clarity, organization, and execution discipline to the company, setting it on a path to sustainable growth.

Establishing a Clear and Executable Product Strategy

When I became involved with PostConnectPlay, the company had an early version of its platform but lacked a structured plan to guide its development and market entry. Working closely with the Founder, I created a comprehensive product strategy, outlining the journey from an initial MVP to a mature, fully featured offering. This strategy provided clear milestones, ensuring that each phase of development built upon a strong foundation.

The MVP was designed with a clear scope, focusing on core functionality that would provide immediate value to users while allowing room for future expansion. By prioritizing essential features and establishing success metrics, we ensured that the first version of the product would be both viable and scalable.

Defining Robust Requirements and Improving Product Quality

One of the critical gaps in the early product was the lack of structured requirements documentation. To address this, I conducted a detailed review of the existing platform, identifying areas that needed improvement. I then created comprehensive design and testing requirements, ensuring that development efforts were aligned with clear, measurable objectives. These documents became essential tools for both internal teams and external engineering partners, reducing ambiguity and improving development efficiency.
Additionally, I introduced structured quality assurance processes, helping the team identify and resolve issues early in the development cycle. This focus on quality resulted in a more stable and reliable product, ready for real-world use.

Strengthening Collaboration and Governance

Effective product development requires strong collaboration, both within the company and with external partners. Recognizing gaps in communication and workflow, I implemented internal collaboration tools and processes, ensuring that the team could work more efficiently. These tools helped streamline discussions, document decisions, and track progress, bringing much-needed structure to day-to-day operations.
I also introduced product governance frameworks to provide oversight and accountability. This included defining clear ownership of tasks, improving visibility into project timelines, and ensuring alignment across stakeholders. By putting these foundations in place, I helped the company transition from an ad-hoc development approach to a more structured and predictable process.

Driving Feature Development and External Partnerships

With a solid foundation in place, I turned my focus to expanding the product roadmap. I developed detailed feature request documents, ensuring that new functionality was well-defined before development began. These documents served as a blueprint for the engineering team, reducing rework and accelerating feature delivery.

Additionally, I played a key role in negotiating Statements of Work (SOWs) with potential development partners, ensuring that PostConnectPlay secured the right expertise at the right cost. These agreements provided clarity on deliverables, timelines, and expectations, helping the company scale its development efforts effectively.

Results and Lasting Impact

The work I led at PostConnectPlay created a strong foundation for the company's future growth. The MVP was well-defined and executable, ensuring a smooth initial launch. Robust requirements documentation and testing processes improved product quality and development efficiency. Collaboration and governance tools brought structure and transparency to internal operations, enabling better teamwork and decision-making.

Finally, a clear feature roadmap and strong external partnerships positioned the company for scalable expansion.

By focusing on these core areas, I helped PostConnectPlay evolve from an early-stage idea into a well-organized, execution-focused startup with a clear path forward.
